CORPUS CHRISTI — The Port of Corpus Christi is poised to hear about three companies who are vying for the property where Naval Station Ingleside once stood and could make a decision on a new owner today.

Port commissioners narrowed the selection from five companies to three in their meeting last week.

The three finalists, in order of staff preference, are Service Marine, a company based out of Midland, who repairs vessels and would use the port for that purpose. The company would use only part of the base, and would lease the parts that went unused.

Corpus Development wants the land for a master-planned development. They own the property directly across from the base and want to create a commercial and industrial area.

Finally, Apex’s SwiftShips, the makers of military vessels, wants to lease the land to create a manufacturing center.

The Port heard from two other companies on Friday that couldn’t provide adequate proof of financing.
